stack banana

as usual, i am late. but even though my lozface friend disagrees, lil wayne's "6 foot 7 foot" epitomizes the time. as we reach our heads up from the clouds of the last few years' recession and the bleakness of economic opportunity, we must step our feet to the apocalyptic repetition of the "day-o" sample and shake our heads to the coolness of weezy's trademark rasp as he reminds us once again why so many (including himself) considered him to be the best rapper alive. the song is a rush of glee and horror, with the shoulder-rocking of the verses and the ominous urgency of the chorus, conjuring up images of militants, hungry people, and house parties; the kind of thing one expects of m.i.a. but how absolutely marvelous it feels getting it from mr. a milli. when i first heard it, i was in the car and blasting it loud was the key to its greatness. it's a bombastic, layered, eccentric piece of the 21st century and readily announces the style of a new decade, yet to be defined.
